Strategic insights for a world-leading portfolio of executive master’s degrees

In Spring 2025 we helped The London School of Economics (LSE) strategically evolve its portfolio of post-experience master’s degrees.

At a glance

The project: High-profile and strategically-critical consulting for LSE’s global portfolio of post-experience master’s degrees. An intensive 16-week 360 degree research project for 12 separate degree programmes and 9 separate departments across the university.

The issue: LSE needed strategic clarity for their portfolio direction and was working under a restrictive deadline for resource and structural decisions to be made. They wanted their decisions to be based on up-to-date, comprehensive and robust data and analysis and for the research to apply to all relevant departments, from law to health policy, finance and management to behavioural science, from public administration to international policy, and from social entrepreneurship to cities.

The solution: Thorough, multi-approach research and analysis delivered as actionable recommendations, a digestible report and a series of clear presentations to stakeholders and senior leaders. The results were strategic, comprehensive and practical.

The result: LSE’s senior management buy-in and confidence in embracing the recommendations and actionable insights meant the client was able to evolve the portfolio of post-experience master’s degrees.

Don’t take our word for it. The client’s experience:

I led the project team from the LSE side and was impressed with both the approach by and deliverables from Capstone Consultants.

I couldn’t have imagined a more effective and expert team than Helen and Leyla as the primary partners. They really went out of their way to understand and then take responsibility for delivering to our objectives. And they went the extra mile in a compressed timescale to deliver research, analysis, and recommendations that were thorough, strategic, authoritative, and actionable.

Crucially for any successful change project, LSE’s senior management and, importantly, the Program Directors of the dozen EMScs embraced the recommendations, facilitated by a digestible report and a series of effective presentations by Helen.

‘King’s Business School engaged Capstone for two years when our Executive Education open programmes portfolio was first launched out of Bush House, and at a time when we were in a start-up position, looking for rapid growth. We secured their expertise and practical experience of high-touch executive student recruitment to help us bring the portfolio to the market and to recruit the first cohorts of executives onto a number of programmes. Capstone were really positive and energetic partners throughout this time, giving us a strong foundation for growth, and since then our executive education programme portfolio has gone from strength to strength.’

‘Just as we moved from being known as the University College of Estate Management to the University of the Built Environment, I chose Capstone Consultants to deliver a strategic and market research review of our unique specialist MBA. I had worked with them successfully at a previous institution and I was aware of their extensive expertise in the post-experience education market.  The work they undertook, a 360-degree review including B2B and B2C markets, gave us important insights and helped our decision-making relating to the future direction and development of our programme, as well as practical considerations related to our recruitment and alumni services.  The data and analysis that they provided allowed us even better to understand our place in the market, and make long-term plans for future successful programmes and I would not hesitate to recommend them as research and consulting partners.’

“Henley worked with Capstone Consultants as recruitment and consulting partner, with a focus on cohort recruitment across our broad portfolio of executive education, coaching, and Global and Flex EMBA programmes, as well as our market research partners for our Corporate Learning Survey. They blended seamlessly with our own professional teams, at all levels, and matched our focus on providing high-touch and high-quality professional recruitment services to our executive participants, corporate customers and students. Capstone excelled at combining its own expertise and experience in the business school market with a deep and strategic understanding of Henley’s unique approach to offering executive development and degrees that have real leadership impact.”

“The Wadham Experience is an innovative and new kind of programme. An intellectual retreat developed by Wadham College at the University of Oxford for leaders, thinkers and doers, that spans the humanities and encourages participants to bring new critical and creative thinking to bear on their own challenges and goals. The Capstone team have been with us since our launch in 2024 and has brought business development and marketing expertise along with their positivity to this entrepreneurial project, which, alongside the Wadham College team, has resulted in a successful launch of the brand and the recruitment of international participant cohorts onto three programmes. Our plans for the Wadham Experience are very ambitious, and we feel confident that Capstone will continue to deliver with passion and energy for future iterations.”

WE Project Director, Wadham College

UCL’s School of Management is on a major growth trajectory. Recommended by my peer colleagues at other institutions, we first worked with Capstone in 2024 on a research and consulting project designed to help us with forward-planning. Through their thoughtful and thorough analysis we were able to make strategic decisions as a senior management team which were based on a realistic view of the global market, and our place in it, and which resulted in the appointment of a new key member of staff.
